Yelp: A Threat to Fair Business Practices
While Yelp is a popular platform for finding and reviewing businesses, many don’t realize the pressure it puts on owners to pay for ads. If they don’t, positive reviews may be buried, and negative ones highlighted, putting their reputations at risk. To view the positive reviews that Yelp hides, scroll to the bottom where it says "unrecommended reviews". These are the ones that magically appear when you pay Yelp a minimum of $600/month.
This approach is unfair and harmful. Forcing businesses to pay to highlight positive feedback undermines the hard work of employees and benefits only those who can afford to pay Yelp, while leaving others at a disadvantage.
