Yelp: A Threat to Fair Business Practices

While Yelp is a popular platform for finding and reviewing businesses, many don't realize the pressure it puts on business owners to pay for advertising.  We recognize that businesses need to generate revenue, and we don't expect services to be free. However, we believe there should be a fair balance between monetization and providing value to both businesses and consumers. Instead, businesses that choose not to advertise may find positive reviews buried while negative ones receive greater visibility, putting their reputations at risk.

To view the positive reviews that Yelp hides, scroll to the bottom of a business's Yelp page and click "Unrecommended Reviews." These are reviews Yelp's system filters out, and many business owners see a larger percentage of these reviews become visible after they begin advertising.

PepTech believes this approach is unfair and harmful. It can diminish the hard work of business owners and employees while giving an advantage to those who pay to advertise. Consumers also miss out on seeing the full picture of a business's reputation.

PepTech truly appreciates the honest reviews our customers share on Nextdoor and through personal recommendations, and we're proud to feature those testimonials on this website.

Please support businesses based on the quality of their work—not simply on the platform that gives them the most visibility.
